Text messaging, also known as SMS, is sending short messages between two devices, usually two cellular phones or it could be between a cell phone and a palm device or a pager. Some companies have email to cell phone messaging also. The messages need to be short, and thus, abbreviations have been established. Some of the more common ones are: AFK – Away from keyboard,
B/F – Boyfriend
B4N – By for now
BBS – Be back soon
CUA – See you around
CUL8R – See you later
F2F – Face to face
G2G – Got to go
HAND – Have a nice day
HRU – How are you
IDK – I don’t know
ILY – I love you
JJS – Just joking around
KIT – Keep in touch
LOL – Laughing out loud
LTNS – Long time, no see
MorF – Male or Female
MUSM – Miss you so much
NM – Never mind
NP – No problem
OOH – Out of here
PDQ – Pretty darn quick
PLZ – Please
POS – Parent over shoulder
PU – That stinks
RME – Rolling my eyes
SLAP – Sounds like a plan
SS – So sorry
SUP – What’s up?
TSTB – The sooner, the better
TU – Thank you
WKD – Weekend
YW – You’re welcome
