Facebook: The Drug

by Jacob P. September 28th, 2011 | Cell Phones
Recently, I was watching TV and an ad for the HTC Status came onto the screen.  I just thought that the phone is so pathetic.  The ad made me seriously wonder about society as we know it.

I have always felt that we use social networking, namely Facebook, way too much.  I will tell you that I use it too much, but the ad brought it into reality how desperate we are to have that constant connection to Facebook.  This phone has brought social networking to a new level.

The HTC status is an AT&T exclusive smartphone that has a built-in

The Social Network: Entertaining Cyber Tale

by Jason Lightner August 30th, 2011 | Cyber Culture
The other night I had the opportunity to see a movie I've been wanting to see for some time, but never had the chance. The Social Network was released October 1, 2010, and being the geeky type that I am, friends of mine had been dying to know what I thought of it.

Regarding this post from two weeks ago, the experiment was a failure. Not a total failure, mind you, but enough of a failure that I would consider it a failure. Confused? Here, let me explain...

My goal in this experiment was to talk on the phone more, to have that vocal interaction with my friends and family on a more regular basis. My goal was to cut down on or eliminate status updates, comments, tags and all the crap that goes along with Facebook or texting or any other non-human interaction with people. The conclusion that I came to

Becoming More Social by Becoming Less “Social”

by Jason Lightner February 4th, 2011 | Communications, Cyber Culture
I've got this idea rattling around inside of my head and I'm going to make a plan for it and put it into action. First, let me tell you about how this idea came about.

You may have read my last post regarding Facebook being an evil company with complete control over the personal information you post. Regardless of your opinion on the matter, I'd like you to ask yourself the following question: "Is Facebook the best way for me to be social?" If you've done any hard thinking about this, chances are that the answer is no.

For most
