I can’t believe it’s not a notebook

Computers

netbookNetbooks have become the craze lately.  Those of you shopping for a new laptop may have noticed the emergence of this electronic creature.  From the early feedback received by friends of mine, they are a great investment.

To catch everyone up on the netbooks…they are laptops still, just without some of the same features.  Netbooks are smaller and lighter.  For example, the notebooks on Dell.com weighed in a range of 3.05 to 6.80 lbs, and the netbooks ranged from 2.30 to 2.60 lbs.  The weight benefits come from not having any CD or DVD drives and often more basic video cards.

I know some of you have been hitting the gym this summer, and the weight is not an issue to you.  The lower price may win you over.  On average a netbook is $100 cheaper than a comparable notebook, which make these a great option for the person counting pennies.

Netbooks serve the number one purpose most people buy computers: going on the internet.  These little buggers have the tools that you need while on the go or at home to surf the web for business or pleasure.  The smaller size makes it incredibly easy to toss into a book bag or briefcase and run out the door.

College students would benefit from these because of the cheaper price and ease of transport.  Businesses are buying these for their office networks to make sure everyone is still on the same page.  Doctor’s offices, especially, are a huge proponent of having netbooks.  I can envision schools and companies going to these over desktops to allow students and employees to raise their anchors from the desk.

Now, to get back into the features.  For those who must have a disk drive there are USB ports to plug in an external one.  However, something to keep in mind, with the memory capacity of flash drives, disks will soon meet the same fate of the 5.44 floppy disk.  Even most gaming and software companies allow you to download programs right from the site.

Keep netbooks in mind the next time you go shopping, and you are likely to save some money.
