Google Chrome

After looking at other people’s computers and seeing what web browser they use, I have found that Internet Explorer is not very prevalent. What I’ve seen a lot is Mozilla Firefox. Firefox was more common with Mac users, but now I have seen that it is very common everywhere. For example, the computers in the computer labs at school do not have Internet Explorer icons. I spent a long time looking for the icon or the program in the system, but this search was not successful.

A few months ago, I was about to download and install Firefox on my laptop because I heard about how it was safer and better to use than Internet Explorer. However, then I heard that Google had created a new web browser called Google Chrome. Given all of the great programs that Google has created, I figured that I would give this program a try and see if I liked it.

It’s great. For instance, while Firefox takes 8-9 seconds to open and run, Chrome starts up within a second. Chrome does take up a little bit more of memory than Firefox, but that is because each tab is its own application. What that means is that when one tab crashes, the others will not. Also, you can drag tabs out and create separate pages or even shut each tab down individually via Task Manager functions.

Something that I like about it is the “home page” that is made up of icons that represent your most frequently used websites. (Apparently I visit Facebook.com more than Google or Gmail…oops). Google Chrome is really easy to use, and it is so much faster and more efficient than Internet Explorer.

I did have some issues when I installed a few Vista updates. Chrome was crashing continuously because of this update, but it did restore to exactly what I was doing last when it crashed. I was very impressed by this. After visiting a Google forum, I easily found the solution to my problem, and I have not had any issues since then!

I would definitely recommend using this program.

Yea, I’ve been using Chrome on and off, and it is definitely a good browser.

  2. I tried Chrome once but nothing grabbed me enough to ditch FF, so i’ll stick with that for now.

I have been using Chrome on my Windows machines since it was dropped, and been pretty happy. Little things like searching from the address bar, and better Google Docs integration make it quicker and in many ways easier than FF.
Also it dosen’t slowdown the machine if it has been running for a while like FF. I just wish they would release a Mac version so i could use it on my main machine.

I’ve tried Google Chrome but I still prefer Mozilla Firefox. Though, I still use it from time to time as secondary or tertiary browser with Firefox and/or Opera.
