Chromebooks

by Bea May 17th, 2011 | Computers, Cyber Culture
Google has launched an attack against Microsoft once again with Chromebooks.

Is it a laptop? No, but it does look like one.

With a Chromebook, there is nothing to start up except for the web - no programs, no desktop settings, etc.  In 8 seconds, you can find yourself perusing through your e-mails or catching up on the local news. Everything is web-based. Your documents, photos, calendars, e-mails, videos, and more are all saved online. This makes it easy to pick up where you left off should you lose your Chromebook, or it is stolen; however, this means that you won't

The Good, the Bad, and the Useless

by Zac Sheffer May 3rd, 2011 | Computers, Gadgetry
Pardon the movie pun, but it seemed topical as this article will actually give blurbs on three new gadgets, well two gadgets and a concept: a bike helmet with built-in turn signals, a pico projector that replaces a laptop’s optical drive, and vibrating sauna pants.

The ‘good’ goes to a helmet with built-in turn signals. Sadly this product is still conceptual, but once someone eventually creates it, it will be awesome. Acer Iconia-6120 laptop

by Bea April 19th, 2011 | Computers
The Acer Iconia laptop is certainly its own species. Why? Well, it is made up of two 14 inch touch screens; yes, when you flip the laptop open you will see a touch screen where you would expect to see a keyboard.

What happened to the keyboard? It's an on-screen feature now. Needless to say, if you are planning on getting "real work" done, then this isn't the laptop for you. The screens themselves are great; they're high-definition widescreen LED backlit LCDs. In other words, for photo viewing, the laptop is great. To use the laptop as a photo album is probably

The Blurry Line

by Jacob P. March 15th, 2011 | Apple, Cell Phones, Computers
Today, the line between computer and cell phone is so blurry, it may no longer exist.  There are many new combo devices changing the game.

Steven Colbert said, "If you've got an iPhone already, a lot of (the iPad) will be very familiar to you. The same touch screen technology. The same apps. And just like the iPhone, you can't make calls with it."  I'm afraid he is now wrong.

With the release of the iPad 2, the newest calling feature, the Facetime camera, became accessible.  Now, much like the fourth generation iPod touch and the iPhone 4, you can video
